Hosting more than 15 million visitors annually, the Grand Strand (population 330,000) is a 60-mile uninterrupted arc of beach land along the Southeastern U.S. coast. Its primary city, Myrtle Beach, S.C. (Horry County) is home to approximately 28,000 permanent residents.

Tourism is the primary industry. Only 34% of the local properties are taxed at primary-home rates, evidencing the large concentration of second-home and investor buyers.

The South Strand (Murrells Inlet to Pawleys Island in Georgetown County) is prized for its laid-back atmosphere, preservation of trees, lack of billboards, and low-country cuisine.

The North Strand (North Myrtle Beach and Little River, SC across the state line into Brunswick County, NC) is dotted with barrier islands such as Sunset Beach, Ocean Isle Beach and Holden Beach.

With its subtropical climate, summer heat mitigated by its coastal location, and mild, short winters, the area is popular among summer beach goers, golfers (more than 100 courses), retirees and snowbirds.
